Pawnee Mental Health Celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month with "Be Kind to Your Mind" Theme

Since 1949, we have observed Mental Health Awareness Month every May. It holds immense significance as it provides a platform for raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting mental health understanding. During this month-long observance, individuals and communities come together to emphasize the importance of mental wellness and to advocate for access to mental health resources and support. By spotlighting mental health, we can encourage open conversations, foster empathy, and create environments where individuals feel empowered to seek help without fear of judgment or discrimination. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial reminder that mental health is an integral part of overall well-being and that everyone deserves access to care and support.

This year, Pawnee Mental Health is excited to kick off Mental Health Awareness Month with the theme "Be Kind to Your Mind." Throughout May, Pawnee will double down on its commitment to raising awareness about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and providing support to all individuals across its 10-county service area. This year's campaign theme, "Be Kind to Your Mind," resonates deeply with the organization's mission to provide compassionate, person-centered care that fosters healing, empowerment, and resilience.

“The “Be Kind to Your Mind” theme emphasizes that it is okay to focus on our own mental health and to give ourselves the grace to make that a priority,” said Jena Dunham, Director of Medical Services at Pawnee Mental Health.

Pawnee Mental Health invites everyone to raise awareness during Mental Health Month and participate in the "Be Kind to Your Mind" theme. Let's embark on a journey to prioritize our mental wellness and create a brighter future.

Here are some ways you can Be Kind to Your Mind:

Practice self-care: Set aside time each day to engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation, such as reading a book, walking in nature, or enjoying a hobby.

Prioritize sleep: Ensure you get enough rest each night to recharge your mind and body.

Stay connected: Reach out to friends and loved ones for support and companionship. Social connections are vital for mental well-being.

Practice mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness techniques into your daily routine, such as deep breathing exercises or meditation, to reduce stress and increase present-moment awareness.

Seek professional help if needed: If you're struggling, don't hesitate to reach out to a mental health professional. Therapy and counseling can provide valuable support and guidance.

Pawnee Mental Health will offer a range of themed shirts featuring this year's "Be Kind to Your Mind" theme, along with past themes from 2022 ("It's Time to Talk") and 2023 ("Mental Health Matters"), available for purchase at https://bit.ly/PawneeShirts. These shirts are a tangible reminder of our ongoing commitment to mental wellness. Our organization remains committed to providing valuable support and resources to individuals of all ages, fostering a culture of mental health within the community.
