The 2024 Beloit Decorated Gourd Event

Artists Opportunity

Beloit area persons interested in art, gourds, and doing something different and interesting are invited to join in a gourd decorating and display event. This is not a contest, no prizes will be offered, no charge to enter. The event is offered for the fun of joining with a like-minded group of creators who will work independently (or as a team) on a common challenge; to take a gourd and make something appealing with it. The gourds remain the property of the artists. They may be sold during the display or taken home after.

Gourds, permanent and durable and coming in a variety of shapes and sizes, have been decorated and used for display and functionally by cultures throughout world history.

Designs can be painted on, carved or burnt into, objects added onto, or any other technique the artist can come up with. The gourds will be provided free of charge, kindly donated by a local gourd enthusiast. Anyone with access to their own gourds may use those as well.

The gourds are available now and may be picked up from Chamber of Commerce Office in the Porter House or from Holdren Artworks, 200 W 2nd St.

The deadline for their completion will be Thursday, May 16th, 2024 and will be featured in the newspaper and on display in the community for a time including Memorial Day, May 27, 2024.
